A couple
years ago I came across this gem of a game, being
a vivid RPG gamer looking for that 'unique' and
compelling experience. Gothic 2 turned out to
be just up my alley, but being a relatively new
and unheard of title when I got my hands on it,
there was little to no information about it. Thus
I set to life an idea I had been toying around
with for a while - writing a game 'guide' to brush
up on my english writing, and maybe add atleast
a hint of personal touch and humor to normally
dreadfully boring pieces of reading.
2 years later and the whole project is still haunting
me. It turned out to be far from the quick and
easy excerise I envisioned. After some 150+ pages
written back in 2003, I just had to put it down
and give it a rest. Again, after 2 years of that
'almost finnished' guide nagging me in my subconsciounce,
I finally got the time to both dive into the game
again; playing and exploring some venues I didn't
get to last time around, and thus also continue
writing the guide. Look for a newer version soon,
maybe even a final.
Another thing that sparked my interest and drove
me to pick up the guide again was new rumors on
the elusive English version of the addon - Night
of the Raven. The publisher Jowood has mentioned
that an English version might see the light of
day "soon", but as far as rumors go
they stop there. The total fiasko of now despised
Atari, who owns the international
publishing-rights to the title yet as far as anyone
can tell, went and screwed every fan over by refusing
to publish the addon, and also in the process,
preventing anyone else from doing so also. Gothic
fan? Stay clear of Atari releases in the future,
I know I do.
It might seem this situation is over somewhat,
as rumors has it there are several east-european
versions already for sale, with full english speech
and even subtitles, but also in the various east-european
languages. Also rumored to work just fine when
installing over the English original. So what
now? Maybe Jowood could actually say something
on the matter and give the fans the Enligsh version
in the end? Prefferably before the release of
the English Gothic 3 in 2006.
